EXPOSED: DollyDripp

What is your company all about? Dollydripp is a clothing label for dolls with attitude! I’ve always believed that alternative fashion can be feminine and girly. ‘Alternative’ girls like getting dress up as much as the next girl; we don’t always live in black and skinny jeans as many people seem to think! I want the Dollydripp clothing range to reflect this.

Where do you draw your inspiration from? I draw a lot of inspiration from vintage/retro fashion, mostly the 50’s rockabilly and pin up style, but update it and give it a modern twist. I still follow the catwalk shows as I get inspired by beautiful clothes and I keep up to date by researching trends and street styles. I try to mix all these elements into my garments and design things that I would want to wear.

Are there any pieces you’ve made that stand out as personal favourites? One of my personal favorites is the ‘Hello Sailor’ Wiggle dress. It’s such a flattering shape and the nautical feel of it really makes you stand out in a crowd!

Tell us a bit about any new items/ranges you’re currently working on or have recently released? I’m currently working on my Autumn/Winter ‘12 collection and I’m really excited about it! It’s a bit darker than my previous garments, with a bit more of a gothic vibe but still keeping the vintage style shapes. There’s going to be a lot of black and lace involved and it will be a bigger collection this time round.

How do you make sure that your ideas and designs stay fresh and appealing to your fan base? The great thing about being a smaller business is you can easily add new products quickly to your range if you spot a trend appearing. I’m always watching out for street style trends and reading lots of blogs.

If you could create a custom item for anyone in the world, who would you pick and why? Gwen Stefani. She’s been a style icon of mine since I was a teenager! She has this effortless way of mixing all these different styles, which really shouldn’t work together, but she always manages to pull it off!

What does the future hold for you and your brand? Dollydripp has recently had its first birthday and I’m really pushing to build on the success I’ve had so far. In the next 12 months you’ll hopefully see me out and about a bit more at vintage markets and tattoo shows, as well as getting my collection into some local boutiques. This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, so I can guarantee there’ll be bigger & better things for Dollydripp in the next year!
